Hineni - an Introduction
Hineni is a Zionist, politically
non-partisan, Modern-Orthodox Jewish movement which
provides interesting weeekly activities, special
functions and in order to increase awareness, identity
and knowledge
amongst Jewish Youth.
The primary aim of Hineni is the inculcation of Jewish
values into Jewish youth, and the promotion of the
Zionest ideal. Zionism is a fundamental Jewish value,
however Hineni collectively is non-partisan on political
platforms or opinions. Thus we do not promote a
particular party in Israel such as Likud (cf. Betar) or
Labor (Habonim-Dror), nor do we call for a particular
lifestyle in israel for either her citizens or diaspora
jews making aliya, such as collective living on a
kibbutz.
Hineni was founded in an age in which young Jews were
unaware of what it means to be Jewish. an age in which
many Young Jews are oblivious to the depth and beauty of
their traditions, values and culture. Hineni was founded
in an age of mass assimilation.
When G-d called our forefather Abraham to sacrafice his
own son Abraham answered "Hineni" - "I am
Here, I am ready". It is this willingness to make
sacrifices, and to identify with and love the Jewish
people, Jewish Homeland and Jewish values that Hineni
endevours to instill in today's Jewish youth, the future
of the Jewish people.
Hineni now operates in three Australian States;
Sydney - Central Synagogue
Melbourne - St. Kilda Synagogue and
Canberra.
It has been a member of the Australian Zionest Youth
Council since 1991 and runs an extensive year-long
leadership programme in Israel, offering its year 12
graduates the opportunity to participate in the Machon
and Ma'aleh programmes, educating them in Jewish culture,
history and tradition, Zionism, Israel, Israeli way of
life and much more. The programme also teaches
participants the important skill of educating other so
that the knowledge they have picked up during their
years' stay in Israel may be passed on upon their return
to Australia. It is these leadership programmmes that
benefit and help to
ensure their continuance in the future.
